🌱We got accepted to (another) Acceleration Programme. Jointly delivered by Silicon Valley Bank and London GrowthHub, it is an initiative designed to provide early-stage technology companies with the best toolkit to support their growth.

🔮MAKE is about revealing our user's own inner wisdom. Their creations help them to express, understand, learn and embrace unexpressed emotions. We are developing our digital platform that will enable our users to record their creations online so they can track their progress and growth through time.

😊Another showcase. Last Thursday, we showcased at the Innovation Fair on the World Mental Health day organised by ZINC.VC (our incubator). We had plenty of fruitful chats with different people coming from different sectors. We want to share some of those below (no photos this time, since we mainly talk and listen to our potential users had to say about MAKE)

🚬An adult male, working for a big law firm mentioned that he would use the MAKER boxes instead of smoking. He said that although knowing that smoking is not good for his health, he does it as a break from his hectic days. But he sees the value of using the MAKER boxes instead of smoking during those most needed breaks during the day. That will give him a “me-time” + a healthy habit. THANK YOU!

🐖Various people recommend us running a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for MAKE. We are weighing that option and perhaps soon you will receive a link to our campaign. #letsallpitchin

🎨...engagement in the arts is consistently seen to enhance wellbeing and quality of life in people of all ages. In short, the arts can help to address many of the challenges the health and social care system is facing and improve the humanity, value for money and overall effectiveness of this complex system. (read here full report

💰The arts and health economics- it just makes sense. Since it can be used as a non-medical approach to preventing mental health problems it could help save money in the health service and social care. “Making art can enable people to take greater responsibility of their own health and wellbeing by helping maintain levels of independency and curiosity and improve the quality of life by bringing greater joy” (4 min read)

🕴️Obsessed with the details. New components in the MAKER box. Now, each box contains a card with a (probably new) emotion with the aim to increase your emotional vocabulary. The best thing is that you can collect them.

🌈New horizons. Producing & shipping MAKER boxes is not that simple but shipping 100 MAKER boxes to the US is…. well, it gets complicated. (We can't reveal the clients’ details yet, but soon we will)

⏰Fundraising takes time. This is not news for us but it does take time. Luckily, so far we have met with 5 investors and still waiting to hear for the next steps with some of them. Wish us luck!

☄️TATE LATES & MAKE. Yesterday we got invited to talk about Creative Learning through Creative Wellbeing at the TATE Modern. The audience was mainly young adults and around 100 people. Our 3 key points:

  • Creative Learning is this combination of disciplines. It is a collaboration and a holistic approach to learning more about us. It is a way in which we combine what we know to learn what we don't know.

  • Museums, working alongside experts in different fields, can be the enablers of the Creative Learning experiences and design programmes that will help us understand ourselves through art.

  • Solutions are coming from outsiders or from different disciplines not even imagined before, and technology is accelerating that process.

👍 New Design. Being an early-stage company means that we have to be creative with resources. Our boxes are one of our advertising campaigns so, we design this colourful box. Thoughts?

🛎️New Audiences. Yesterday in our presentation at the TATE LATES, the audience show their interest in MAKE. They wanted to know more about us and to buy the product. They also got interested in the research, happening in October, conducted by the LSE to understand how MAKE influences a person's well-being compared to passive entertainment. (i.e scrolling through social media or watching videos)

We will keep you posted about this experiment.

🧬Why try to be creative if our dispositions are encoded in our bodies? Luckily, that’s only part of the story—creativity is notoriously difficult to define, and research suggests it’s significantly more complex than a series of chemical compounds. (5 min read)

Creativity the new 🔥. McKinsey released their latest report about the skillshift in the workforce. As we know, automation will accelerate the shift in required workforce skills we have seen over the past 15 years. Among those are emotional and social skills,

Demand for higher cognitive skills will grow moderately overall, but will rise sharply for some of these skills, especially creativity.

📈Social & emotional skills on the rise. The United Kingdom’s significant share of social and emotional skills is expected to remain a feature of the economy in 2030. But not just to remain but it is also on the rise, compared to 2016 having social and emotional skills are now being part of the new recruitments in the workspace.

😇 We need your help. MAKE has a lot of coming plans but we need financial support.  On our plans, to name a few, a scientific research to understand how the MAKE experience influences well-being compared to passive entertainment (e.g. scrolling through social media or watching youtube or a video), ongoing conversations with charities to run more pilots and building synergies with them but we need funding!

If you know any angel investors or just someone interested in the creative well-being topic interested in investing in us, please refer them to us.

kudos

📵Unwind with MAKE. One of our USP (unique selling proposition) is offering a me-time to unwind from the digital attention crisis we are currently living. Our activities are designed to spend less time on your phone/tech device and more time on body-based mindfulness. If you know someone who desperately needs this, give them a MAKER box.

🖊️Sign up the petition. Young people deserve better mental health support and there are tons of charities and organisations pushing our Government to make this happen. Join MAKE and the other 33,600 individuals that already signed the petition, to request the authorities to put more efforts in preventing young people's mental breakdowns. It is motivating that there are a growing number of organisations working on the preventative space, just like MAKE.
